Formula 1 for Senior Students

Our A.B. Paterson College Senior School students participating in the Formula 1 for schools program travelled to Griffith University to investigate the design process. They started by discussing the aerodynamic strategies to improve performance of their vehicles.

Students cut various shapes into foam blocks to collect data using wind tunnels. They then refined these shapes to improve on their performance before attaching axels and wheels. They then collected data by testing their vehicles down a ramp.

Our students experimented with various weight distribution strategies to optimize performance. Finally, they investigated combustion and electric engines before debating which is superior.

Overall, our Formula 1 students gained an abundance of knowledge to apply to their own Formula 1 vehicles being created during class.
